Restoring Wood Renewing Homes

Damage Happens.
The Right Repair Fixes It.

Life happens on top of your floors, and it doesn’t always ask permission first. A dropped pan, a slow leak behind the dishwasher, a dog that skids around the corner one too many times, none of it is planned, and none of it means your floor is ruined.

Most homeowners don’t expect these things until they’re standing over the damage. A moved couch reveals a stain that’s been spreading quietly for months. A humid summer leaves boards slightly cupped. A guest’s high heel leaves a gouge in the hallway. These are the ordinary, unglamorous surprises that come with owning a home and they’re rarely as serious as they first look.

Flooring repair exists for exactly this reason. Instead of tearing out and replacing an entire floor over a localized problem, a repair addresses only the area that’s actually damaged, matching the wood, the stain, and the finish so closely that the fix disappears into the floor around it. It costs less, takes less time, and keeps the rest of your original floor exactly as it was.

Here's a few situations that could happen:

Scratches

Scratches happen from everyday foot traffic, furniture legs, or pets sliding across the floor. Light surface scratches usually just need buffing and a fresh coat of finish. Deeper scratches that reach the bare wood need filling and refinishing in that spot so moisture can't get into the exposed wood.

Water Damage

Spills, leaks, or high humidity can seep into the wood, causing dark stains, cupping (edges of boards rising higher than the center), or a soft, spongy feel underfoot. Repair is needed to dry out the area properly, replace any boards that have warped or rotted, and reseal the wood before mold or structural damage sets in. Unfortunately in some cases the whole floor needs to be replaced.

Wall Being Moved

When a wall is removed or relocated, it often leaves a gap or mismatched flooring where the wall used to stand, different board direction, wood age, or finish. A repair blends in the new area, weaving in matching wood and refinishing the transition so the floor reads as one continuous surface.

Hollow spots

Sometimes you can feel some hollow spots when you walk on the floors, especially with Lvp or engineered wood, it could be a subfloor issue, or many times the floors were installed without a floor prep first.

Many times a glue injection being made at the spot that is moving can fix the problem.

Polyurethane Recoat

A poly recoat adds a fresh protective topcoat to an existing hardwood floor without stripping it down to bare wood.
Its less disruptive, no heavy sanding means less dust, less noise, and less need to fully vacate the space.
And it preserves the wood since every sanding removes a thin layer of wood; floors can only be refinished so many times before the boards get too thin. Recoating extends the life of the floor without wearing it down.

Subfloor Problems

If the subfloor underneath has settled, rotted, or shifted, the hardwood above it can squeak, feel bouncy, or develop uneven spots, no matter how nice the surface finish looks. This kind of repair means pulling up the affected boards, fixing or replacing the subfloor itself, then relaying and refinishing the hardwood on top.

If you're looking for someone to refinish or install hardwood floors, stop searching and call Bachman Floors. We had nearly 2,000 square feet of solid hardwoods sanded and refinished, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From day one, the communication, professionalism, and attention to detail were outstanding. They treated our home with care and made what could have been a stressful project incredibly easy. The biggest difference was their guidance in choosing the stain. Instead of simply asking us to pick a color, they walked us through the options, explained how each would look in our home and lighting, and helped us choose the perfect fit. We ended up going with one of Bona's newer stain colors that feels modern and on-trend while still maintaining the timeless character of real hardwood. It's the perfect balance of contemporary and classic, and we couldn't be happier with the result. The craftsmanship is exceptional. The floors look brand new, the finish is flawless, and they completely transformed the feel of our home. We've had multiple people walk in and immediately comment on how beautiful the floors are. Finding contractors who combine incredible craftsmanship with excellent customer service is rare. Bachman Floors does both. If you want a company that genuinely cares about the final result and takes pride in their work, I can't recommend them highly enough. Five stars without hesitation!

I highly recommend Carlos and his team at Bacmann Flooring for your next flooring project. They were so professional and with an exceptional skill level. They color matched and stained an existing red oak top stair to blend the transition between pine stairs and the LVP that I chose for the project. Used a satin finish which looks great next to the LVP. Wow! Love how it looks. They completed demo of old carpet and installed 500 sq ft of LVP with 3 different moldings and the specialty work, in one day with clean up and haul away. Competitive pricing, as well. I needed the job completed with a short window turn around. So pleased Carlos could make it happen! Looking forward to working with this team again for my next floor project this winter. Thanks, Bachmann Flooring!

Questions

Usually yes, catching it early is what keeps it small. A surface issue addressed now is a quick fix; left alone, it can work its way deeper into the wood and turn into a larger repair later.

Not in most cases. Repairs focus only on the affected boards or finish, leaving the rest of your floor untouched. Full replacement is usually only needed when damage has spread structurally or across a large area.

A well-matched repair blends closely with the surrounding wood in color, grain, and finish. It may be faintly visible up close right after the work is done, but it settles in further as the finish cures.

Water damage often shows as dark discoloration, a soft spot underfoot, or boards that have started to cup or rise. Normal wear looks more like dullness, light scratching, or worn traffic paths. When in doubt, it’s worth having it looked at before it spreads.
