Engineered Hardwood

Real Hardwood, Without The Sanding Process

How's the installation progress

Our installation process begins with a careful inspection of your subfloor and space to determine the best installation method for your specific environment. We then lay each plank with precision, ensuring tight seams and a smooth, consistent finish across the entire floor. Because engineered hardwood comes in a wide range of wood species, stains, and finishes, we work with you to select a style that complements your home’s design while delivering the long-term performance you need.

Engineered hardwood combines the timeless beauty of real wood with a construction designed for greater stability and versatility. Unlike solid hardwood, engineered wood is built with multiple layers pressed together, which helps it resist warping and expansion caused by changes in humidity and temperature, making it a great choice for basements, kitchens, and other areas where solid hardwood might struggle.

Engineered hardwood floors are a smart choice for a lot of homeowners, and here's why they're worth considering:

They handle humidity and temperature swings better.

Engineered hardwood is built from multiple layers of wood pressed together in a crisscross pattern, with a real hardwood veneer on top. This construction makes it far more stable than solid wood, it resists expanding, contracting, warping, or gapping when humidity levels change throughout the year.

They can go where solid hardwood can't.

Because of that added stability, engineered hardwood can be installed in basements, over concrete slabs, and in other moisture-prone areas where solid wood would be risky. This opens up rooms that traditionally couldn't have real hardwood at all.

They still look and feel like genuine wood.

Unlike laminate or vinyl, the top layer of engineered hardwood is real wood, so you get authentic grain, texture, and the ability to sand and refinish it (usually once or a few times, depending on the veneer thickness), not an imitation.

They install faster and more flexibly.

Many engineered floors use click-lock or floating installation systems, which means less mess, shorter installation time, and often a lower labor cost compared to nail-down solid wood floors.

They're a strong value option.

Engineered hardwood typically costs less than solid hardwood while still boosting home value and appeal, since buyers see it as genuine hardwood flooring, not a budget substitute.

They come in just as many styles.

From wide planks to narrow strips, whitewashed finishes to deep walnut tones, engineered hardwood is available in the same range of looks as solid wood, so you're not sacrificing style for practicality. Altogether, engineered hardwood offers the beauty of real wood with more flexibility and resilience, a great fit for homeowners who want authentic floors without the limitations of solid hardwood.

A few caveats worth knowing: rescreening only works if the existing finish is intact (no bare wood, deep gouges, or water damage) and it won't change the stain color; it's strictly a "clean and recoat," not a way to alter the look. If your floors have deeper damage, full refinishing is the better route.

Solid vs engineered

If you're looking for someone to refinish or install hardwood floors, stop searching and call Bachman Floors. We had nearly 2,000 square feet of solid hardwoods sanded and refinished, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From day one, the communication, professionalism, and attention to detail were outstanding. They treated our home with care and made what could have been a stressful project incredibly easy. The biggest difference was their guidance in choosing the stain. Instead of simply asking us to pick a color, they walked us through the options, explained how each would look in our home and lighting, and helped us choose the perfect fit. We ended up going with one of Bona's newer stain colors that feels modern and on-trend while still maintaining the timeless character of real hardwood. It's the perfect balance of contemporary and classic, and we couldn't be happier with the result. The craftsmanship is exceptional. The floors look brand new, the finish is flawless, and they completely transformed the feel of our home. We've had multiple people walk in and immediately comment on how beautiful the floors are. Finding contractors who combine incredible craftsmanship with excellent customer service is rare. Bachman Floors does both. If you want a company that genuinely cares about the final result and takes pride in their work, I can't recommend them highly enough. Five stars without hesitation!

I highly recommend Carlos and his team at Bacmann Flooring for your next flooring project. They were so professional and with an exceptional skill level. They color matched and stained an existing red oak top stair to blend the transition between pine stairs and the LVP that I chose for the project. Used a satin finish which looks great next to the LVP. Wow! Love how it looks. They completed demo of old carpet and installed 500 sq ft of LVP with 3 different moldings and the specialty work, in one day with clean up and haul away. Competitive pricing, as well. I needed the job completed with a short window turn around. So pleased Carlos could make it happen! Looking forward to working with this team again for my next floor project this winter. Thanks, Bachmann Flooring!

Questions

It’s a multi-layer product with a real hardwood veneer on top bonded to layers of plywood or high-density fiberboard underneath. This cross-layered construction makes it more dimensionally stable than solid hardwood, so it resists warping from moisture and temperature changes.

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood all the way through, while engineered hardwood has a thin wood layer over a plywood core. Solid wood can be sanded and refinished many times over decades; engineered wood can usually only be refinished once or twice, depending on how thick the top veneer is.e using. But normally for a house with 1200 sqft, it takes 2 to 3 days.

Yes, and that’s one of its biggest advantages. Its layered core handles humidity better than solid wood, making it suitable for basements, over concrete slabs, and even over radiant heating systems — situations where solid hardwood typically isn’t recommended.

With proper care, it typically lasts 20 to 30 years, though higher-end products with thicker wear layers can last longer. Lifespan depends heavily on the thickness of the top veneer, foot traffic, and how well it’s maintained.

Generally yes — it looks and feels like real wood, which appeals to buyers, and it costs less than solid hardwood while offering similar aesthetics. It won’t always add quite as much resale value as solid hardwood in high-end homes, but it’s a solid middle ground between cost and quality.
